01Before You Go

Preparation is protection.

People think travel insurance is about protecting a trip. It's about protecting a life.

I've built a life around travel — the places, the tables, the stories. And I've spent even longer inside the insurance business my family has run in Puerto Rico for more than three decades. That's where I learned the difference.

I don't have a disaster story of my own. What I have is years of answering the phone when it happened to someone else — a client hospitalized on the other side of the world, alone, in a country where she didn't speak the language. The carrier paid every medical expense and coordinated directly with the hospital. She never advanced a dollar or translated a single form.

That's why I do this. Emergencies don't wait for a convenient moment — they arrive somewhere unfamiliar, exactly when you have the least control. A good policy isn't about expecting the worst. It's what lets you stop thinking about it.

If something happened thousands of miles from home — would you actually be covered?

03What It Covers

The things you hope you'll never need.

01

Medical emergencies abroad

Doctor visits, hospital stays, surgery and prescriptions outside Puerto Rico — where your local health plan usually stops.

02

Trip cancellation & interruption

Reimbursement for prepaid, non-refundable costs if illness, weather or an emergency means you can't go — or have to come home early.

03

Baggage & documents

Lost, delayed or stolen luggage, and help replacing a lost passport far from home.

04

Delays & missed connections

Meals, a hotel night, a rebooked flight — the small disasters that add up when a connection falls through.

Coverage, limits and exclusions vary by carrier and plan. Pre-existing conditions, adventure sports and pregnancy are often optional add-ons — worth checking before you buy.

04Who's Behind It
Veronica Isabel

A traveler who happens to be your agent.

I'm Veronica Isabel — a writer, a traveler, and a licensed insurance representative with Torres & Rodriguez, LLC, the agency my family has run in San Juan since before I was born. I've been in it since I was sixteen.

The carriers on this page are ones we've placed clients with for years. When you buy through my links, I'm your representative on the policy — which means when something goes wrong on the road, you have a person to call, not a hotline.

05Questions

Before you buy.

When should I buy travel insurance?
As soon as you've paid for anything non-refundable — flights, a cruise, a hotel deposit. Cancellation coverage begins as you pay the policy.
Does it cover pre-existing conditions?
Redbridge offers an endorsement for stabilizing emergencies from pre-existing conditions. Other carriers do not currently offer this coverage. If this matters to you, Redbridge is the option for you.
I'm already abroad. Can I still buy?
Usually not — most policies must start before you leave Puerto Rico. Some carrier plans allow it with a waiting period. Ask before you assume.
Does it cover cruises?
Yes, with the right plan. Cruise itineraries usually need medical coverage at sea and missed-port protection, which not every base plan includes. Tell the quote tool it's a cruise, or ask me.
What's the difference between travel insurance and travel assistance?
Travel insurance is a regulated policy that reimburses you for covered losses. Travel assistance is a service that coordinates and pays for help — a doctor, a hospital, an emergency return — while you're traveling, without being an insurance policy. Redbridge Assist is an assistance service, which is why it's available to travelers outside Puerto Rico.
How do I make a claim?
Call the emergency number on your policy first — they coordinate care and open the claim. Keep every receipt and report. Then call me. That's the part that's different about buying through a person.
